Musical History of Cheryl Lunsford
Cheryl Lunsford is one of the few female flat-picking guitarist in the world. She is the only female to win and place in flat-picking guitar contests. She teaches guitar, bass and voice in her private studio (The Guitar Dojo), conducts workshops and Guitar Camps, and is a professional performer.
She grew up in Roanoke, VA and started playing the guitar when she was 12. Her father was a banjo player, and she soon joined her father's band playing rhythm guitar for square dances.
Cheryl professionally studied guitar and graduated from Chilton Guitar Studio and went on to study voice and obtain her BA degree from Mars Hill College in North Carolina. Cheryl also studied under Scott Fore, as an apprentice for the Virginia Foundation For the Humanities, and is a recognized folk artist, and has played on the Virginia Stage at the National Folk Festival.
For the last few years, Cheryl has been busy operating her professional teaching studio, where she holds private lessons and group classes in a state of the art learning environment, complete with DVD lab, CD listening lab, and performance stage.
When Cheryl is not teaching, she enjoys performing locally with her daughter Erin, who is also a guitarist/singer/songwriter.
Cheryl is making her presence known in the male-dominated National Guitar Championships.
